5th European Water Conference 2018, 20-21 September 2018, Vienna, Austria

The European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment together with the forthcoming Austrian EU Presidency are organizing the 5th EU Water Conference 2018, from 20-21 September 2018 at the Museum Quarter district in Vienna, Austria.

The conference aims to present and discuss progress in the implementation of EU water legislation which has the objective of achieving good status of the EU’s water resources. Of particular focus will be the progress achieved on the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Floods Directive. During the course of 2018, the forthcoming Commission report on the EU Member States’ second River Basin Management Plans and the first Flood Risk Management Plans, as well as the forthcoming State of Water Report 2018 from the European Environmental Agency will be released.

These will form the basis of the discussions at the Conference which is expected to have about 400 representatives from EU countries, stakeholder groups in relevant economic, social and environmental sectors, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and other EU institutions. The Conference will serve as the platform where the participants will debate the findings of the different water-related reports, exchange experiences, and discuss the ongoing and forthcoming evaluation of EU water policy (the Fitness Check, associated Directives, Urban Waste Water Directive).
